During October, the ON team embarked on an internal design competition, to design on behalf of their local Tap Room, Floc Brewery in Canterbury. With a team experienced in designing bars and hospitality settings, there was no shortage of creative and functional ideas.

The company was split into 5 groups, and took part in a month long series of design workshops, while working tirelessly to bring their ideas and designs to life to present to the their peers and the Floc Team.

After careful consideration by the Floc Team, led by Floc Owner, Ross, they crowned ‘The Brew Crew’ the winning team. The Brew Crew consisted of Architectural Designers, Serena Harris and Eleonora Sarlo; Architectural Assistant, Ken Yeung; Visualisation Manager, Dan Marple and Associate, Andy Ratcliffe and who had this to say on behalf of the winners;

As a team, The Brew Crew thoroughly enjoyed getting into a different aspect of design from our normal daily work. Testing, as well as tasting, the product certainly gave a different perspective to the perceptions of a taproom and all that it could be. Having been selected as the winners of the competition – we are really looking forward to assisting where we can with the delivery, and seeing the various areas enjoyed by all at FLOC.

The Brew Crew’s design consisted of a Mezzanine, Beer Wall and an Indoor Beer Garden!

Ross, from Floc, was complimentary of all entries, and so impressed by the designs and effort each team had collectively contributed to bringing the new phase of Floc to life.

“We chose The Brew Crew’s fantastic design as the template for the taproom upgrade. We loved all the ideas each team presented to us but felt The Brew Crew’s design captured the essence of the brand and what we are hoping to achieve with the space perfectly. The design allows us to still operate as a production brewery efficiently when the taproom’s closed, but allows space and playful areas when in use as a taproom to further enhance customers’ experience of the beer and the business as a whole.”
