On Architecture helps create Balance

Work is well under way on a new venture to improve the work-life balance of New Romney residents.

When it opens it doors Balance Bar will donate 100% of its profits to the important work of brain tumour treatment and awareness charities.

The design for Balance Bar, a new hospitality venture in the former High Street branch of Lloyds Bank is the work of the team at Canterbury-based On Architecture for client and local resident Lance McKay of HRS Construction and HRS Rail.

Balance Bar will be a “profits for charity” bar and eatery with residents and visitors to the Romney Marsh able to enjoy high quality tapas and drinks, including cocktails, as well as the opportunity to watch live sports.

Natalie French, architect at On Architecture led the interior design for Balance Bar with technical elements of the project delivered by the firm’s Philip Hall, associate and his team.

When it opens in June, the Balance Bar will be a new destination bar for New Romney. Its interior will offer high quality levels of fit-out by using materials and textiles to provide a sense of place, with a series of exclusive booths for drinking, eating and socialising.

The bar’s design incorporates the retention of the former bank vault to create an exclusive VIP area. The bar uses geometric designs, stylish gold noir décor, ambient lighting, with a feature bar incorporating a high quality audiovisual system.

The new £250,000 investment in the new venture is living up to its positive name by providing much needed support the charity – Brain Tumour Awareness – in recognition of the care provided to Mr McKay’s daughter and family during a difficult time.

David Weir, Director at On Architecture, added: “Everybody will be looking for a little more balance in their lives as we come out of lockdown. The architectural design of the bar will create a place where people want to spend time relaxing with their family and friends.

“Balance Bar will be a credit to New Romney and at the same time support the vital work of important health charities. We wish the team a busy summer and bright future.”

Balance Bar is one of a number of projects in and around New Romney and the Folkestone & Hythe area undertaken by On Architecture for Mr McKay and his companies.
