Regenerating a Key Part of Ashford
Planning applications for the Civic Centre and Tanyard sites have now been validated, marking an important milestone in the ongoing regeneration of Ashford’s Commercial Quarter.
Together, the proposals will deliver new homes, enhanced public realm, restored heritage assets and improved connectivity, helping to transform a series of fragmented sites into a more coherent and connected town centre neighbourhood.
Reconnecting the Town
Located between Ashford International Station, North Park and the town centre, the schemes seek to strengthen movement through this part of Ashford by establishing new pedestrian routes, improving accessibility and creating a more legible urban structure.
Investment in landscape and public realm will enhance the experience of moving through the area, creating welcoming new streets, spaces and connections that link previously isolated parts of the town.
A Place Shaped by its Context
Developed for Ashford Borough Council in collaboration with the wider project team, the proposals respond to the distinct character and history of each site.
At the Civic Centre, existing buildings are adapted and reimagined as part of a new residential neighbourhood, extending the life of an important civic asset through thoughtful reuse.
At the Tanyard, new homes are integrated with the restoration of the Grade II* listed Whist House and a network of public spaces that draw upon the site’s historic grain and pattern of movement.
Homes, Heritage and Public Value
The proposals combine housing delivery with long-term investment in the public realm, heritage assets and the wider town centre environment.
By bringing underused sites back into active use, improving connectivity and creating new places to live, the projects establish a framework for sustainable growth while reinforcing Ashford’s identity and sense of place.
The validation of the applications marks the next stage in the planning process as the Civic Centre and Tanyard move forward towards delivery.
